RESTORATION FELLOWSHIP CHURCH HISTORY
Restoration Fellowship Church was founded on October 19, 2008, in Alexandria, Virginia by Pastors Rev. Thomas Sinclair and Fifi Bhai-Kamara with a commitment to “Building Strong Families and Strong Communities.” This is an international ministry reaching out to mostly immigrant population and other people in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area-Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia and other nations.
Our Mission is “Building Strong Families and Strong Communities”.
Our Vision is “We aim to reach many souls for the Kingdom of God and to build disciples for Jesus, create an atmosphere of hope and faith, that they would live their God-given purpose in this generation”.
Restoration Fellowship Church is blessed with the vision of Pastor Thomas Bhai-Kamara to establish a church with a vision to restore families and communities. When I received the called to start a church. Both my wife and I were challenged to seek God’s face. When God revealed to me the vision to establish the fellowship, I shared this inspiring vision with my wife and a few community leaders. With God’s direction, and the help of Apostle John Papani Kargbo we modeled the way and encouraged others and to work for God’s vineyard by opening cell groups in their homes in other to study God’s word. Since its existence as a church, Restoration Fellowship Church has continued to experience awesome years of God’s blessings, victories, and challenges. The church has experienced supernatural growth in its membership, which started from a small prayer group in apartments and homes of members and ultimately occupying a bigger space to worship and serve God. And in the midst of challenges, the church has experiencing significant growth in membership as it continues to evangelize to win more souls to Christ. Restoration Fellowship Church serves individuals and their families throughout the community who demonstrate educational, social, vocational, and spiritual development needs with a specific focus on identifying those who are economically disadvantaged and disenfranchised.
In pursuing the church’s efforts to transform people’s lives, the leadership of the church headed by Pastor Bhai-Kamara, and the advice of Apostle John Papani Kargbo we’ve organized several seminars and workshops on leadership, marriage and finance, health, youth issues, communication in the home, and other areas affecting families, communities, and society, all aimed at helping and lifting the spirituality of people. The church is relentless in its indefatigable efforts to continue this path and organize seminars and workshops that fulfill the spiritual desires of our people yearly with Apostle John Papani as the key speaker for the past nine years- “To Build Strong Families and Strong Communities”.
In addition to our regular worship services, the Church strives to meet the needs of our community’s most disadvantaged residents through targeted social services. Over the past five years, we have been fortunate to have the ability to impact the community through a number of outreach activities, including:
Hosting an annual health symposium through which we provide instruction on wellness and health, blood pressure and glucose screenings, and different diseases.
Invited several Pastors from Africa as guests, and provided financial support and in-kind contributions to their missions.
Visited shelters, cooking and providing food for their residents.
Organized a number of seminars on marriage, finance, and health in the community.
Assisted single mothers with rent and food.
Visited the sick and shut-ins, and encouraged the despondent.
Engaged in prayer-walks, where we go around the neighborhood praying in partnership with other health organizations to improve the health of our community members.
Provided a number of positive extracurricular activities for children and young adults.
While we continue to face budgetary constraints, we remain actively involved in a community food program, through which we feed over 100 people on a weekly basis. At this time we are relying on volunteers from our congregation to prepare the meals in their homes and assist in delivering them to those in need. Unfortunately, this places significant limitations on our ability to serve all who require assistance. Therefore, our most significant need is a permanent building of our own, where we can worship God without restrictions and to prepare meals and have adequate storage space for the food. In addition, we are in need of a reliable transportation mechanism for this project.
Specifically, our objectives include:
1. Establish a brick and mortar location at which to headquarter all outreach activities.
2. To meet community activities and project for Children, Youth, Women and Men.
3. Obtain 2 passenger vans to be used for transporting volunteers and supplies to distribution locations.
The impact of achieving each of the proposed objectives is that more individuals and their families are served with higher quality programs yielding better, long-term outcomes. Ongoing evaluation assures progress and cost-effectiveness. Throughout implementation of the proposed activities our organization will continue to address the needs of our target communities, to brighten lives, to facilitate personal achievement, and spiritual growth in the lives of people.
In these economic times, public and private agencies are facing tremendous budget shortfalls. Children and families, especially those experiencing periods of extreme economic hardship in our community, are struggling to access the basic resources that they so desperately need. We realize donors are very carefully considering their annual giving, however we are confident that spending these valuable and limited resources on our programming is one of the best investments for a more solid and hopeful future for our community. We keep our administrative costs low, offer high quality programming, and carefully measure outcomes. There is a vibrant praise and worship ministry which quickens the spirit touches the soul and reinvigorates the body. The Women’s Fellowship is an integral and formidable part of this ministry and is always in the fore-front to execute the will of God in diverse activities and ways. The children’s ministry is gradually transforming and our children are being taught the Word of God, instilling in them God’s love. But lack of space, financial and material resources are hindering the progress of the children’s ministry. The ushers are fabulous in their work, inspiring us with excellence and servanthood. They are dedicated and committed in their service to the congregation. At Restoration Church, it is not about shallow, meaningless love but Acceptance, Care, Compassion, and Genuine Love.
Restoration Fellowship church is growing and continues to restore integrity, dignity, and credibility to the body of Christ through love and unity in the Holy Spirit. The church continues to work assiduously with its leaders and followers to build strong families and communities.
